The Three Tree Point Neighborhood of Burien
Nestled almost halfway between Seattle and Tacoma along the shoreline lies the quaint neighborhood of Three Tree Point. Bordered by the communities of Seahurst, Gregory Heights and Normandy Park, this neighborhood is quietly tucked away in a residential are of Burien that you many not realize has some of the best views in Greater Seattle.
Three Tree Point’s triangular spit juts out into Puget Sound’s Salish Sea, commanding 180 degree views that include Mt. Rainier to the South, Vashon and Maury Islands to the West and the Olympic Mountain Range to the North.
Historically, in the mid 1800’s, this waterfront community began as a summer vacation retreat for Seattle’s wealthy elite who built smaller homes with cabana’s and cabins lining Maplewild Drive and SW 172nd along the beach. By the late 1800’s, roads into the area were still crude and Three Tree Point remained isolated. However, because it was considered a prime vacation area many of the residents traveled by steam boat ferry along the Puget Sound “Water Highway”.
Three Tree Point today is a refuge for outdoor water enthusiasts and sportsmen alike. Many residents participate in the communities breadth of activities including; kayaking, stand-up-paddle boarding, windsurfing, boating, rowing, sailing and scuba diving along with bird and wildlife observation. In addition, many in the community find the draw of having Chinook, king and silver salmon and crabbing accessible right from their doorsteps a draw.
While many of the homes along the waterfront in Three Tree Point are restorations of original residences you will also find more contemporary estates designed to capture the area’s beauty and breathtaking views and visually stunning sunsets.
